In 1981, Doug and Sandy McKinney moved to Asheville with two goals in mind: to build a family and to build an insurance business they could call their own. After years of working for Nationwide, they decided it was time to take a leap and start their own agency. They purchased an existing property and casualty agency and began growing the business, eventually expanding into commercial and life insurance.

What started as a small family business has grown into a trusted insurance agency serving individuals, families, and businesses throughout Western North Carolina and beyond.

Today, McKinney Insurance Services remains family-owned and operated, carrying on the same values Doug and Sandy built the business on more than 40 years ago. Doug continues to serve as co-owner and president, while their son, Chad, is a co-owner and principal agent.

Through the years, a lot has changed, but one thing hasn't: our commitment to our clients and our community. We believe insurance should be personal, and we take the time to get to know the people and businesses we protect.
