Step Back In Time

In many ways, time stands still in Weaverville. People gather on the streets to discuss families, work, high school football, and the change of season.

Weaverville is a place where the police jiggle doorknobs every evening to make sure shopkeepers remembered to lock up. The walkers and joggers exchange "heys" as they pass at Lake Louise. Garden club volunteers keep downtown plantings a burst of seasonal colors. Area farmers sell their produce, flowers, and canned goods at a tailgate market downtown every Thursday in the warm months. Postal carriers deliver letters even when the address has been left off the envelope.

There are two parades a year to commemorate the events dearest to the hearts of Weaverville residents - Christmas, and North Buncombe High School Homecoming. Weaverville is only six miles from downtown Asheville, but its pace and values are a generation away.

You can find out more about some of the area's attractions here.

The Weaverville Art Safari is the last weekend of April and first weekend of November each year. The self-guided free studio tour features dozens of the best artists and craftspeople in the Southern Highlands.

Fourth of July is a time to party on Main Street. Civic groups and others sell food and crafts from booths as a band keeps the crowd dancing. In the evening, residents take their chairs into Main Street to watch the spectacular fireworks show.

Art in Autumn is a brand new Arts & Crafts Festival marking its debut on September 22. The festival will fill Main Street with art, food, and music from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Mostly, mark your calendar to take time off, to ease your pace, and to savor the kindness and beauty of our community.
