Birthplace will commemorate
Black History Month
during the month of
February with a program
titled “Behind
the Big House.” The
free program will be
held Feb. 6 at 10 a.m.,
Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.,
Feb. 20 at 1 p.m., and
Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. Advanced
registration is required.
The planter’s
residence, often called
the “Big House” by
slaves, was the most
prominent building by
virtue of its size and
position. Beyond the
Big House there existed
another social domain,
one that is often overlooked.
This program will explore,
in detail, the slaves’ side
of the plantation. For

Come join us the last weekend of April for the Spring Weaverville Art Safari. The safari features self-guided tours of various artists' studios, tucked away in the countryside communities of Weaverville, Barnardsville, and Alexander. The tours are free and open to the public, and some artists' studios are open year-round by appointment. So come join us, and take home a trophy from North Carolina's creative frontier. The Weaverville Business Association is proud to present the annual Art in Autumn arts and crafts festival on Main Street in downtown Weaverville each September. Cops for Kids Bike Run
The Cops for Kids Bike Run is the official kick-off for the Weaverville Police Department's Cops for Kids Toy Drive. For the past six years, the Police Department has organized the toy drive to help needy children in the area.

Weaverville Christmas Parade
1 p.m.
The Town of Weaverville
hosts its annual Christmas
Parade on the first
Saturday of December.
The parade begins at
1 p.m. at the intersection
of North Main Street
and Dula Springs Road,
travels through downtown
Weaverville, and ends
at the intersection
of South Main and Yost
Streets. Join
us on Main Street along
with local bands, floats,
marching units, local
dignitaries and of course
Santa.
December 10
6-9 p.m., Main Street
Make plans to join us
as Weaverville will be
aglow with luminaries
along the streets, local
choirs and bands will
provide music, and horse
and buggy rides will be
available through town.
Local businesses will
be open late for Christmas
shopping, and kids
can visit with Santa.
